The Galveston Alternative Education Center graduated 44 out of 47 students in June 2011. These at-risk students most of whom were referred to us by Judge Jim Schweitzer's Court are going on to Galveston College, ITT Tech, Texas Southern University, College of Mainland, the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy and other bright futures
The Galveston Alternative Education Center is located at St. Vincent's House a "safe campus" with positive activities and programs. This is a High School Diploma Program - not a G.E.D. program, for youth who have been removed from G.I.S.D. It is currently funded by a grant from the Criminal Justice Division of the Office of Governor Rick Perry and Bloomberg Charitable Trust. The program combines education with positive interactions with members of the Galveston County Sherriff's Department and The Galveston Police Department. This is a true "last chance" effort to help these youth to turn their lives around and become productive members of society.
